Email Setup - Gmail or G Suite


Setting up your Gmail or G Suite Emails in Edge

If you are unsure whether you have Gmail or G Suite, you can often distinguish between the two by how the email address domain. G Suite emails are typically setup like @storename.com, while the Gmail domain will always be @gmail.com.
 

Enabling Less Secure Apps to Access G Suite:

  1. The first step is to log into G Suite Admin Portal.
  2. Next, click the Admin Console at the top right.
  3. Once in, navigate to Security > Less Secure Apps
    • Make sure to choose the option Allow Users to Manage Less Secure Apps.

Then sign out and sign back into your email account.
1. Click on the G Suite icon again at the top right.
2. Click Manage Account.
3. Next, navigate back to Security > Allow Less Secure Apps.

NOTE:  The above steps can also be done when using Gmail.

You will need to navigate to MANAGE MY ACCOUNT of your Gmail account to be setup for use within Edge.
Follow all the steps, simply ignore anything specific for G Suite. SEE BELOW to continue.

Enabling Less Secure Apps to Access Gmail:

1. Open your Google Admin Console
2. Next, Navigate to Security > Basic settings.
3. Under Less Secure Apps, select Go to Settings for Less Secure Apps .
     • In the Sub-window, select the Enforce Access to Less Secure Apps for All Users radio button.

NOTE: If Allow Less Secure Apps cannot be located, then this means the Two - Factor Authentication has already been turned on, and you will need to follow the steps below to create an APP PASSWORD.


enlightenedOnly follow the steps below if Allowing Less Secure Apps DID NOT work, OR if Two - Factor Authentication is already setup.


For G Suite Users:

1. Navigate to Security > 2-Step Verification - Choose the option to Allow Users to Turn This on with Enforcement OFF.
2. Go back to Security and Click on 2-Step Verification.
     • This will require you to set up a phone number. You will receive a text with a Verification Code. This step is required.
3. Enter in all information, including the Verification Code you received WITHOUT the G (if sent with letters). Just enter numbers. 
4. Click button to proceed.
5. Once this is done, you have to click the back arrow next to the 2-Step Verification options at the top of the screen.
     This will bring you back to the security page.
6. Under the 2-Step Verification, click on App Passwords.
7. For Select an App - Choose Other - Name it Edge.
8. Generate the password - This will be used in Edge for completing email setup.
9. 
Copy and paste this password into the password box in your Edge email settings.
     • Find the password box by going to Edge > Administrative > Email Settings - Select the option you are looking to setup.
     • Locate box named: Email Server Login Credentials > Enter Email Login/Password to enter your email & created password.
10. To complete email setup, fill in the remainder of form including the SMTP settings found at the bottom of this page.


enlightenedMake sure to keep a record of this new password. This password cannot be reset. 

The only work around is deleting old app password and creating a new one, then updating the information in the corresponding fields within The Edge.


For Gmail Users - Setup 2-Step Verification:

1. Open your Google Account.
2. In the Navigation Panel > Select Security.
3. Under Signing into Google > Select 2-Step Verification.
4. Follow the onscreen steps
     For Gmail Support:

For Gmail Users - Create/User App Passwords:

1. Open your Google Account.
2. In the Navigation Panel > Select Security.
3. Under Signing into Google > Select App Passwords - you may be prompted to login.
4. At the bottom, choose Select App - choose the app you are using.
5. Next, choose Select Device - choose the device you are using.
6. Follow the onscreen steps.
7. Click Done.
     For Gmail Support:

SMTP for Email Setup Completion in Edge

SMTP Server:  smtp.gmail.com or alternatively aspmx.l.google.com
Ports:  465 - SSL, 587 TLS
Check BOTH boxes:  Server Requires SSL and Server Requires Authentication
enlightenedIf using the alternate Port # 25:  Do NOT check Server Requires SSL. Only check the box for Server Requires Authentication
Click Test Connection to verify the connection to your email is successful.
