Bulk Records Overview

The Edge manages bulk items differently than individually priced items. With individual item pricing (fine jewelry), the software assigns a unique item number to a piece and that item number is never re-used. If that same item style is added in the future it is assigned a new unique item number. When one of these items is sold, the status of its specific unique item number is changed from I (in stock) to S (sold).

For bulk records, The Edge assigns an item number to a particular style or type of item. That item number is referred to as the Bulk Master. If additional pieces of this style come in they are entered as quantity onto the Bulk Master. When you sell bulk inventory the status of the Bulk Master does not change. Instead, the quantity is reduced by the amount sold.

To facilitate tracking and reporting, The Edge creates a Bulk Instance item record each time a bulk item is sold or consumed as a part. This can be thought of as a "snapshot" of the sold item. These records are automatically created and there is nothing you need to do with them; they are used by the system to keep track of sold or consumed bulk.

enlightenedIt is recommended you create separate categories for your bulk items. Adding a bulk category is just like adding a regular category, just be sure to specify the correct pricing method.
