Error: Settings to access printer X are not valid

Incorrect printer settings can cause a number of problems such as missing columns on reports, envelopes printing in the wrong orientation, and print related error messages. Invalid settings effect both print preview as well as the physical printed document.

This error indicates that the Edge is not able to print to the specified printer. Often times we see this happen when you are attempting to print to a printer that is physically located on another computer and attempting to print to it over the network. It is caused by your computer not being able to access this networked printer.

First Steps to Resolve Error Message

First, make sure the printer is powered on and online. Then try printing to that printer from the computer it is physically connected to.

Next, reboot your computer and try printing again. That should re-establish your connection with this printer. If this fails, you may consider deleting and reinstalling the network printer.

You will want to properly setup printer options in Edge.
To do so:

  1. Open The Edge and click File > Printer Settings and select Receipt, List, or Report, depending on what you are trying to print.
NOTE:  We recommend you check the settings on each of the 3 printer settings (Receipts, List and Report) as the same trouble often applies to all three of the these types.

  2. Make sure the settings match the below settings:

Choose the correct printer from the drop-down menu.
The fill in each of the following options.
Paper size: Letter or 8 ½ x 11
Paper Source: Automatically select
Resolution: Custom
Duplex: Default
Orientation: Landscape
Important; Set all four margins to 0.25

enlightened Printer margins are set independently at each workstation. Take the time to ensure all three printer settings (receipts, list and report) are setup accurately on all Edge workstations.

You may also want to set your printer as the Windows default printer.
To do so:

  1. Navigate to your computer's Control Panel > Devices & Printers.
  2. Right click on your normal printer and select the option Set as Default Printer.
NOTE:  You will know it's set correctly when it displays the green checkmark. When there is not a printer listed with a green checkmark, it means Windows is managing your printers so you need to manually select your printer.
